The Worst Best Political Position
‘What’s the worst political position you’ve ever had?’
Out of all the political positions to hold the one I have, of a the maverick extreme left, is the most difficult position to be in. Every other place on the political specturm is easier.
If you are a maverick rightist it’s also difficult, but at least you have some clear phenomena to support: Queen, money, military power, race, country, etc. Almost everyone has some clear idea of what they are, even if their ideas are full of silly cliches and even if it does not do justice to the complicated position the marverick rightist has on them. By comparison a maverick leftist has vague abstract things like ‘liberatarian communism’ in their corner, that 99% of people have no idea about at all or massively inaccurate misconceptions of.
If you are positioned in the center then you have one hugely poweful aspect in your corner: size. Most people in most places are either center left a bit or center right a bit, or the mind numbingly gray position of ‘center-center’. It’s a position in which almost everyone you meet me know about and moderately agree about. It’s a very easy place to be. But im not judging ‘easy’ to mean correct or intelligent or positive.
If your are an authoritarian leftist then you used to have some very powerful forces in your corner: the USSR and Maoist China. George Orwell was a maverick lefist who fought against Stalinism and because of that is still, to this day, thought of some as being on the right. But he was not, he was a maverick leftist. Both Russia and China deserted the authoritarian left, moved right, sometimes very far right. But elements of feminism and anti-racism have, according to some, planted themselves in the authoritarian left position. As a maverick leftist you will be jumped on hard if you stray from what is considered acceptable positions in regards to race, gender… or even if you suggest that class and economics should be focused on just as much as gender or race.
If you are an out and out racist right winger, on the authoritarian right, then you will be hated by many, but supported by a fanatical and often by a powerfuly loyal percentage. You may even find some rich backers. You may even be one yourself, like Trump. Who found support among a very large group of Americans. Many activites that can make you rich fit in nicely with extreme right positions. By comparison really rich left wingers are exteremly rare, you are held back in economic activity by seeing much of it as capitalist exploitation that your principles wont alow you to engage in, and the left is always falling out with itself.
So, if its so difficult to be a maverick leftist then why keep that position? Because its the most intelligent, logical, courageous, honest and humane place to be.
Yep.
