The logic of destruction in Brazil
(example of how capitalism is a bad system, number 426!)
In Brazil this week the new anti-socialist government took away the power of various environmental groups to preserve the rain forest, and protect the indigenous people there… and, instead, put control with a department that is clearly dominated by powerful industrial interests. Result will be more deforestation and further pushing out of those indigenous folk...
The real reasons for this being that the capitalist minded new government wants to exploit the rainforest for profit, and also to reduce the power of various left minded groups that annoy them. The destruction of the planet’s health and the further destruction to the way of life of people who live in the rainforest being, to a capitalist, of little importance.
The logic they give for this is laughably weak and outlandish:
“Silas Malafaia, an influential televangelist and close friend of Bolsonaro, said developed countries who centuries ago cut down their own forests should pay if they wanted Brazil to preserve the Amazon.“We’re going to preserve everything because the gringos destroyed what they had?” he said.”
- What? This appears to me that they are saying 'we are not going to learn from the past mistakes of other places, which have proven to be so and they mostly now regret…we are going to go right ahead and make the same mistakes.'
Or the new president:
““More than 15% of national territory is demarcated as indigenous land and quilombos. Less than a million people live in these places, isolated from true Brazil, exploited and manipulated by NGOs. Together we will integrate these citizens,” he posted.”
- Doesn’t that that sound like something a racist pioneer would have said in the USA in the 1850s? “There is less than a millions indians in the west, wasting all that land, exploited by their tribal medicine men and taken away from the word of Christ. Its our destiny to spread into that land and integrate it with the rest of the nation. By force if necessary.”
Folk who support capitalism: THIS is the kind of crap you are supporting. Do us all a favour and just dont.
